What causes the sensation of a foreign body in the throat?
Disease description:
I kept feeling like there was a foreign body in my throat while working today, and I couldn't swallow it down. I wonder what might be causing this?
The sensation of a foreign body in the throat may be caused by chronic pharyngitis, which leads to symptoms such as congestion and swelling in the patient's pharynx. It could also result from chronic rhinitis, in which increased nasal secretions cause postnasal drip, allowing mucus to drain into the throat and produce the aforementioned symptoms. Additionally, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can also cause these symptoms.
