What causes wisdom tooth pain and swelling?
Disease description:
I've been feeling some pain in my back teeth recently. After going to the hospital for a checkup, I found out it was due to swollen and painful wisdom teeth. So, what exactly causes wisdom tooth pain and swelling?
Swelling and pain from wisdom teeth may occur due to incomplete eruption. Since wisdom teeth emerge from the soft tissue or bone at the back of the mouth, the relatively large area involved in their growth can lead to pain or other discomfort. Additionally, if the wisdom tooth grows in an incorrect direction and exerts pressure or irritation on surrounding teeth, it may also cause pain.
