Anserine bursitis is very painful; therefore, strenuous exercise should be avoided. Local treatment with acupuncture is recommended, along with cupping and the application of herbal poultices to promote meridian circulation and eliminate dampness. Patients should also avoid spicy or irritating foods that may stimulate nerves and lead to unnecessary complications. Appropriate immobilization and rest of the knee joint are advised. Oral anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications, as well as topical plasters, can be used. Patients should keep the affected area warm. Additionally, local injections of triamcinolone acetonide may be considered.
