Why is norepinephrine not used in emergency resuscitation?
Disease description:
A few days ago, I went to the hospital for emergency treatment due to shock. When I reviewed the medical bill today, I noticed that norepinephrine was not listed. I'm wondering why norepinephrine wasn't used during the resuscitation?
Norepinephrine is not used in emergency resuscitation because it has a very strong vasoconstrictive effect. Epinephrine is an adrenergic receptor agonist; it activates receptors to constrict arterioles and precapillary sphincters, thereby reducing capillary permeability. Receptor stimulation improves cardiac function and relieves bronchospasm. It also reduces the release of allergic mediators and dilates the coronary arteries, rapidly alleviating the clinical symptoms of anaphylactic shock.
