Elevated total bile acids after cholecystectomy may result from impaired storage and release of bile following gallbladder removal, leading to continuous bile discharge into the intestine and increased reabsorption of bile acids in the gut. Additionally, postoperative stress responses or abnormal liver function may also contribute to disturbances in bile acid metabolism. For this condition, it is recommended to first undergo liver function tests to rule out liver disease. If liver function is normal, improvements can be made by adjusting diet and lifestyle—such as avoiding high-fat and high-cholesterol foods and consuming more light, easily digestible meals. If symptoms persist or worsen, medication such as bile acid sequestrants may be used under medical supervision. Maintaining a positive mindset and regular作息 habits also supports recovery.
