Can you get pregnant after pectus excavatum surgery?
Disease description:
I had pectus excavatum surgery two years ago, and now my husband and I would like to have a child of our own. So, is it possible for someone like me, who has undergone pectus excavatum surgery, to become pregnant?
Pregnancy is generally possible after pectus excavatum surgery. During the procedure, a metal plate is implanted in the body, and until this plate is removed, patients face many activity restrictions—such as avoiding strenuous exercise, heavy physical labor, and maintaining proper sleeping posture—which may affect pregnancy; therefore, pregnancy is not recommended during this period. However, once the plate is removed and there are no complications, the patient is considered fully recovered. After recovery, pregnancy can proceed normally just like in healthy individuals, with no contraindications.
