Are thymoma and pleural tumor the same?
Disease description:
Recently, I've frequently experienced symptoms of coughing and chest pain, and suspected that I might have a pleural tumor. However, after a hospital examination, the doctor diagnosed me with thymoma. Are thymoma and pleural tumor the same?
Thymomas and pleural tumors are usually different. Thymoma is a tumor originating from thymic tissue, mostly benign, and the primary treatment of choice is surgical resection. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy may be necessary to prevent recurrence and distant metastasis. Pleural tumor refers to pleural mesothelioma, a malignant tumor of the pleura, which can be classified into localized and diffuse types. The diffuse type is mostly malignant, and following surgery, adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy are recommended.
