Will the eyes still be red and swollen after cataract surgery?
Disease description:
A 70-year-old male patient from Beijing has long-standing cataracts. He would like to know whether his eyes will still be red after cataract surgery.
It is normal for the eye to become red in the early period after cataract surgery. However, if it is accompanied by decreased vision or increased discharge, infection should be considered. Cataracts are relatively common in clinical practice, primarily due to the gradual increase in lens density with aging, which affects vision. After surgery, early ocular congestion may occur as a result of surgical trauma and intraocular lens implantation, which is a normal phenomenon. However, significant vision loss, severe eye pain, or substantial increase in discharge should not typically occur. Therefore, eye redness alone is considered normal.
