What are the symptoms of cataracts?
Disease description:
I always feel like there's something wrong with my eyes, as if I might have cataracts. I'd like to ask the doctor: what are the symptoms of cataracts?
Cataracts are a common eye condition, with the following typical symptoms:
1. **Progressive vision blurring**: Patients may notice that their vision is no longer as clear as before, as if covered by a thin fog. Usually, both eyes are affected, although the severity may differ between the two.
2. **Reduced color perception**: Patients may find colors less vivid than before, especially blues and purples, which may appear dull.
3. **Decreased contrast sensitivity**: The ability to distinguish different shades and depths weakens, making it more difficult to see in both bright and dim lighting conditions.
4. **Night vision problems**: Vision deteriorates more noticeably during nighttime driving or in low-light environments. Glare or halos around lights may also occur.
5. **Monocular multiple images**: A single object may appear as multiple images, which may be caused by irregular clouding of the lens.
6. **Difficulty with reading or close-up work**: Although vision may be temporarily improved by adjusting eyeglass prescriptions in the early stages, this improvement diminishes as the cataract progresses.
7. **Narrowed visual field**: In advanced stages, cataracts may cause a gradual narrowing of the visual field, giving the sensation of looking through a tube.
Note: If you experience any of the above symptoms, especially vision loss, seek medical attention promptly for an eye examination.
