How can cholecystitis be diagnosed?
Disease description:
I am an advanced maternal age patient, 45 years old this year. Recently, I have been feeling uncomfortable in my gallbladder area and would like to consult: how can I get tested to find out if I have cholecystitis?
Ultrasound is the most direct and accurate method for diagnosing cholecystitis and is commonly used. Ultrasound examination of the gallbladder can detect gallbladder wall edema, gallbladder wall thickening, and gallstones. In addition to ultrasound, CT and MRI can also reflect gallbladder conditions; however, they are more complicated and costly compared to ultrasound, which is simple, non-invasive, and less expensive. Nevertheless, certain advantages of CT and MRI cannot be replaced by ultrasound.
