Disease description:

A 2-year-old child has been having recurrent fever, mouth ulcers, is crying intensely every day, and refuses to eat. I would like to ask: what could be causing recurrent fever and oral ulcers in a 2-year-old child?

Dr. Guo Huijie
Recurrent fever and oral ulcers in a two-year-old child may be caused by various factors. Fever is often the body's response to infection, while oral ulcers can result from infections, nutritional deficiencies, immune system problems, or oral injuries. In young children, recurrent fever may be associated with viral infections (such as influenza or adenovirus), bacterial infections (such as tonsillitis or otitis media), immune system abnormalities, or inflammatory conditions. When a two-year-old experiences repeated episodes of fever and oral ulcers, parents should closely monitor the child’s symptoms, recording the frequency, duration, and peak temperature of fevers, as well as the location, size, and healing progress of the oral ulcers. Parents should ensure the child gets adequate rest, drinks plenty of fluids, and receives proper nutrition. Fever-reducing medications recommended by a doctor and topical pain-relief measures can be used to alleviate symptoms. If symptoms persist or worsen, prompt medical evaluation is necessary. The doctor may recommend tests such as blood work or throat swab cultures to identify the type and cause of infection and provide appropriate treatment.
