What to eat for constipation and dry stools
Disease description:
Having difficulty passing stool, feeling that the stool is particularly hard when it reaches the anus. I suspect I have constipation and would like to improve my diet. What should I eat for constipation and dry stools?
When experiencing constipation and dry stools, increase fluid intake by drinking enough water daily—recommended at least 2000 mL—to maintain the body's fluid balance and help soften stools. Eat more foods rich in dietary fiber, such as celery, spinach, cabbage, lettuces, bananas, dragon fruit, kiwi, and apples; these contain moisture and help promote intestinal motility. Whole grains like oats, corn, buckwheat, and sorghum contain fiber that increases stool bulk and facilitates bowel movements. Consume moderate amounts of oils—such as sesame oil and olive oil—which have a lubricating effect on the intestines to relieve constipation. However, intake should be moderate to avoid excessive consumption that may lead to obesity or other health issues.
