Does being infected with HPV definitely lead to cervical cancer?
Disease description:
I've already been infected with HPV, and I'm already feeling very uncomfortable. I'm afraid it might develop into cervical cancer. Does having an HPV infection necessarily mean I will get cervical cancer?
Being infected with HPV does not necessarily lead to cervical cancer. Whether an HPV infection progresses to cervical cancer mainly depends on individual immunity and the type of HPV. After HPV infection, most people can clear the virus through their own immune system, typically within 10–12 months. However, when immune function is weakened, persistent HPV infection may occur, which can lead to cervical cancer. High-risk types of HPV, such as HPV 16 and 18, significantly increase the risk of developing cervical cancer.
