Elevated absolute lymphocyte count
Disease description:
Two days ago, during my hospital physical examination, I was told that my absolute lymphocyte count was elevated. This was not observed during last year’s physical exam. Could you please explain what might be causing this?

In general, if your lymphocyte count is not persistently elevated, there is usually no cause for concern—this situation falls within the normal range and does not warrant excessive worry. We recommend that you schedule a follow-up health examination at a hospital after some time. If your lymphocyte count remains elevated upon retesting, potential causes to consider include viral infection—most commonly viral upper respiratory infection (i.e., “viral cold”)—or, less commonly, abnormalities in bone marrow hematopoiesis.
