What to do about metabolic alkalosis
Disease description:
I currently have metabolic alkalosis, and I'm not sure what the next steps in treatment will be. What should I do for metabolic alkalosis?
Metabolic alkalosis can be treated through methods such as hemodialysis and medication. If metabolic alkalosis occurs, treatments may include hemodialysis, drug therapy, and replenishment of water and electrolytes. Patients with mild conditions generally have a good prognosis, while severe cases may pose life-threatening risks. Treatment of metabolic alkalosis should be based on responsiveness to chloride. It can be corrected by supplementing chloride ions, depending on the volume of extracellular fluid, as well as considering factors such as potassium deficiency and kidney function.
