Symptoms of mercury poisoning generally appear within about one month. For example, in cases related to cosmetics, symptoms such as renal failure may develop after a longer period of use, such as six months. Based on epidemiological investigation and clinical manifestations, and after excluding kidney damage caused by other diseases or toxic nephropathy from other causes, the condition can be diagnosed as toxic nephropathy due to mercury poisoning. Laboratory tests show significantly elevated blood and urine mercury levels, especially markedly increased urinary mercury, which strongly suggests mercury poisoning.
