Dr. Wang Mingxuan
Symptoms of chronic formaldehyde poisoning include runny nose, dryness and stuffiness of the nose, and general fatigue. There may be signs of mucous membrane irritation, such as stinging pain, burning sensation, heat discomfort, and tearing in the conjunctiva, bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, nasal mucosa, and oral mucosa. In severe cases, symptoms may include palpitations, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing. It is recommended to immediately move away from the harmful gas and go to a well-ventilated area to breathe fresh air. Open all windows to improve air circulation or place some activated charcoal. Additionally, seek emergency care at the emergency department of a tertiary hospital or above for further evaluation. Oxygen therapy and intravenous fluids may be required.
