Dr. Guan Yanlei
Cerebellar atrophy is caused by factors such as heredity and insufficient blood supply. Examples include hereditary cerebellar ataxia and olivopontocerebellar atrophy. Long-term inadequate blood supply to the brain leads to chronic ischemia and hypoxia in the cerebellum, resulting in cerebellar atrophy. In addition, cerebrovascular diseases—such as cerebellar hemorrhage and infarction—after absorption of hematomas or infarcted areas, gradually become replaced by collagen fibers, leading to cerebellar atrophy.
