Swelling in the feet of elderly individuals may be caused by prolonged sitting, trauma, or other factors. Extended periods of sitting or standing can lead to impaired venous return in the lower limbs, resulting in physiological foot swelling. When the feet of elderly people are subjected to external force, it may cause rupture of subcutaneous capillaries in the foot, leading to edema. If there is no obvious open wound on the foot, cold compresses can be applied within the first 24 hours.
