Can liver cirrhosis with swollen feet be cured?
Disease description:
Recently, I was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and have developed swollen feet. I'm worried whether it can be cured. Can liver cirrhosis with foot swelling be cured?
Regarding the phenomenon of foot swelling in cirrhosis, this is usually caused by factors such as hypoalbuminemia and sodium-water retention resulting from cirrhosis. In patients with cirrhosis, impaired liver function reduces the liver's ability to synthesize albumin, leading to decreased plasma albumin levels and subsequently causing edema. Additionally, cirrhosis may lead to portal hypertension, which impairs blood return from the lower limbs and further exacerbates foot swelling. Although cirrhosis itself cannot be directly cured, a series of measures can be taken to alleviate the symptoms of foot swelling. If hypoalbuminemia is present, albumin supplementation should be considered along with diuretic and liver-protective treatments, and the diet should be kept light and bland. For foot swelling caused by portal hypertension, medications such as propranolol hydrochloride tablets or nifedipine can be used to reduce portal pressure and promote blood return from the lower extremities.
