What to do about high muscle tone after spinal cord injury

High muscle tone following spinal cord injury requires treatment through medication, massage, and other methods. After spinal cord injury, increased muscle tone can be reduced with medications such as baclofen. Active movement refers to engaging in deliberate exercises of the antagonist muscles of the spastic muscles; by actively using the antagonist muscles, the elevation of muscle tone in the spastic muscles can be inhibited. Additionally, passive movements such as massage, cold therapy, and heat therapy may also be performed.
