Ovarian cysts may cause symptoms such as abdominal pain and nausea. In the early stages, ovarian cysts usually do not cause discomfort; however, when the cyst enlarges, a feeling of lower abdominal discomfort or bloating may occur. Typically, there is mild pain on one side of the lower abdomen, though severe pain can sometimes develop. If the cyst becomes large, undergoes torsion, or ruptures, acute abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may occur.
