Pain in the upper left side of the back in women commonly results from the following causes:

1. Muscle strain: Prolonged poor posture or engaging in heavy physical labor may damage the muscles and fascia in this area, causing pain.

2. Shoulder periarthritis: Inflammation around the shoulder joint may cause pain radiating to the upper left side of the back.

3. Nerve pain: For example, neuralgia caused by herpes zoster typically presents as pain along the nerve distribution in a band-like pattern, accompanied by rash and blisters. Additionally, sciatica mainly affects the lower back and legs, but can sometimes cause pain in the upper back.

4. Lung diseases: Conditions such as pulmonary infection, pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, or pleurisy may also cause back pain, especially when pain worsens during deep breathing.

5. Gastrointestinal issues: Digestive system diseases such as gastric ulcers, cholecystitis, or pancreatitis can sometimes cause referred pain to the back.

6. Gynecological conditions: Gynecological diseases such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, or pelvic inflammatory disease can sometimes lead to lower back or generalized back pain.
