What is an ovarian cyst?
I recently had a physical examination, and an ovarian tumor was detected. I would like to ask, what is an ovarian tumor?

Ovarian cysts are a common gynecological condition characterized by fluid-filled or solid sac-like structures that form within or on the surface of the ovary. This condition is particularly prevalent among women of reproductive age, with a prevalence of approximately 5% to 17% in postmenopausal women.
The causes of ovarian cysts are varied and may include unruptured follicles during ovulation, incomplete regression of the corpus luteum, hormonal imbalances, and other factors. Most ovarian cysts are benign, asymptomatic, and typically resolve spontaneously within several months without specific treatment. These cysts are known as functional cysts and usually disappear within 2 to 3 months. Non-functional ovarian cysts may be caused by other conditions, such as endometriosis.
Clinical symptoms of ovarian cysts may include menstrual irregularities, abdominal masses, pressure symptoms, vaginal bleeding, and severe abdominal pain.
For cysts that cause symptoms or are found to persist or grow larger during examination, doctors may recommend further investigations, such as ultrasound examinations and blood tests, to assess the nature of the cyst and formulate a treatment plan according to the individual case.
