Why do pregnant women develop placenta previa?
Disease description:
I'm five months pregnant and recently went to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor told me I have placenta previa. Why do pregnant women develop placenta previa?
Placenta previa in pregnant women is generally associated with factors such as a history of multiple abortions, uterine cavity procedures, and curettage. Repeated induced abortions involving curettage or cesarean sections can damage the endometrium, potentially leading to placenta previa. Additionally, if a fertilized egg fails to implant promptly upon reaching the uterine cavity and continues to migrate into the lower uterine segment, placenta previa may develop. Special attention should be paid during the late stages of pregnancy to monitor for vaginal bleeding. Pregnant women should also regulate the frequency of sexual intercourse and attend regular prenatal checkups.
