What causes pain from a cyst on the left ovary?

Pain from a left ovarian cyst may be caused by adhesions, pelvic inflammatory disease, or other factors. It could result from the cyst adhering to surrounding tissues, restricting ovarian movement and causing traction pain. If the pain persists on the left side, you may take oral medications that promote blood circulation and relieve pain, or undergo pelvic physical therapy. Abdominal pain due to pelvic inflammatory disease can be alleviated with traditional Chinese medicine enemas and local heat application. If the ovarian cyst is large, accompanied by lower abdominal pain that worsens during the menstrual cycle, it may be an ovarian endometrioma (endometriosis cyst).
