I previously had liposuction on my back and noticed that the skin there feels a bit hard. Why does the skin become hard after back liposuction?

Dr. Li Qiang
After back liposuction, skin hardening may occur due to reasons such as skin necrosis at the surgical site. Generally, around 15 days after surgery, the area may become firm due to hematoma organization or scar tissue formation, but this typically resolves after three months of massage and heat application. If the area is stiff from the beginning and shows no improvement after six months, it likely indicates that the liposuction was performed too superficially, making recovery difficult. Performing liposuction too close to the surface not only causes hardening of the back and waist skin post-surgery but can also damage blood vessels in the treated area. Therefore, before performing liposuction, the physician must have adequate knowledge of the technique to minimize intraoperative complications.
