The most important concern for patients with concussion is whether headache, nausea, vomiting, or impaired consciousness will worsen during hospitalization. For all patients with head injuries, the head condition needs 72 hours to become completely stable, as delayed intracranial hemorrhage may occur within this period. The mechanism of delayed intracranial hemorrhage is that when the head suffers external force, small blood vessels in the brain may rupture. A self-protective mechanism may prevent immediate bleeding due to vascular spasm at the time of injury. However, once the vasospasm period ends, the ruptured vessels may begin to bleed.
