Disease description:

My menstrual cycle is always irregular, and sometimes I get my period twice a month. When I went to the hospital last week, the doctor told me I have symptoms of abnormal bleeding. So, how can I tell the difference between a normal period and abnormal bleeding?

Abnormal menstruation or bleeding is primarily assessed based on four factors: menstrual cycle frequency, regularity, duration of menstruation, and amount of menstrual bleeding. A normal menstrual cycle ranges from 21 to 35 days. If the cycle is shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days, it is considered abnormal bleeding. Menstrual regularity means that abnormal bleeding does not occur irregularly. Under normal circumstances, bleeding occurs only during the menstrual period, and a difference of no more than 7 days between consecutive cycles is regarded as normal. If the normal menstrual duration is 2 to 8 days, a period lasting less than 3 days or more than 7 days is classified as abnormal bleeding.
