Generally, women can eat watermelon in moderation during their menstrual period, but they should pay attention to controlling the amount consumed.

Watermelon is rich in vitamin C, B vitamins, potassium, and other nutrients, and also contains a large amount of water. During the menstrual period, women's bodies are relatively weak; eating watermelon in moderation can help replenish nutrients and water, supporting normal metabolic functions. Watermelon also contains a certain amount of magnesium, which can help relieve anxiety and tension, thereby assisting in alleviating irritability, depression, and other negative emotions that may occur during the menstrual period.

Watermelon is considered to be a cold-natured food. Excessive consumption during the menstrual period may cause cold stimulation to the body, leading to contraction of the uterine smooth muscle, which can cause or worsen dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation). It may also result in reduced menstrual flow and menstrual cycle irregularities. Avoid eating chilled watermelon straight from the refrigerator, as the low temperature can further stimulate the uterus and gastrointestinal tract, increasing the likelihood of discomfort. It is better to consume watermelon at room temperature to minimize adverse effects on the body.

For women with good physical constitution and no significant discomfort during menstruation, moderate consumption of watermelon is acceptable, although overconsumption should still be avoided to prevent digestive issues. If a woman already suffers from severe dysmenorrhea, cold uterus, scanty menstrual flow, or has a cold body constitution during her menstrual period, it is advisable to consume little or no watermelon to avoid exacerbating physical discomfort.
