The cause of vaginal bleeding after menstruation depends on the timing of the bleeding, the amount of blood loss, and other factors. If vaginal bleeding occurs about one week after menstruation and the amount is relatively small, it is often considered mid-cycle ovulatory bleeding. This type of bleeding is a form of functional uterine bleeding, possibly related to a sudden drop in estrogen levels during ovulation and subsequent slight shedding of the endometrium. Additionally, frequent use of contraceptives leading to excessive estrogen levels in the body may cause endometrial hyperplasia, which could also result in bleeding during the ovulatory period. If vaginal bleeding occurs immediately after menstruation ends, it may be due to prolonged menstrual spotting. This condition is commonly associated with overexertion, exposure to cold, or sexual intercourse during or right after the menstrual period.
