What causes menstrual bleeding to stop for a few days and then start again?
Disease description:
My period just ended two or three days ago. We thought I was in a safe period, so we had intercourse. But the next day, I noticed bleeding again. I'm a bit worried. Why would bleeding occur again just a few days after my period has stopped?
A few days after menstruation ends, if vaginal bleeding occurs again, this depends on whether the timing of the bleeding coincides with the ovulation period. Some women experience ovulatory bleeding during ovulation, although the amount of blood is usually minimal. Besides ovulatory bleeding, certain organic diseases should be considered as potential causes of abnormal uterine bleeding. Generally, benign uterine conditions such as submucosal fibroids, endometrial polyps, and cervical polyps may lead to abnormal uterine bleeding, meaning bleeding outside the menstrual period. Other malignant conditions of the uterus, such as endometrial cancer and cervical cancer, can also cause abnormal uterine bleeding. Additionally, some ovarian tumors, such as sex cord-stromal tumors, which secrete estrogen, may disrupt hormonal balance and consequently lead to menstrual irregularities and intermenstrual bleeding.
