If a woman breastfeeds after delivery, her body will have high levels of prolactin, which can delay the return of menstruation. If artificial feeding is used, menstruation tends to return earlier, with the majority of women resuming their periods around six months after childbirth. Due to individual differences, some women may take up to about one year to resume menstruation. Regardless of whether feeding is artificial or through breastfeeding, ovulation may resume even before menstruation returns; therefore, it is recommended to use contraception during sexual intercourse.
