Disease description:

I am a yoga instructor, and recently my leg joints have been swelling and hurting from time to time, possibly due to tendon sheath inflammation. So, can I practice yoga if I have tendon sheath inflammation?

Patients with tenosynovitis can practice yoga once their symptoms have subsided. However, during acute episodes, they should rest the affected tendon sheath and avoid strenuous exercise. Practicing yoga correctly on a daily basis can help stretch tendons, prevent adhesions, and promote recovery from inflammation. Nevertheless, when practicing yoga, patients should avoid repetitive movements that cause friction on the tendon synovium, maintain a balance between activity and rest, and refrain from prolonged exercise. Patients should also pay attention to their diet, avoiding raw, cold, greasy, and spicy foods, as well as reducing tobacco and alcohol consumption. It is important to protect the tendon sheath and joints by avoiding long-term weight-bearing or pulling activities.
