A lucid interval in brain injury is commonly seen in patients with acute epidural hematoma. The initial brain injury, caused by a severe blow, impairs brain function and may lead to a brief period of unconsciousness. After brain function recovers, the patient gradually regains consciousness. However, due to the ongoing expansion of the acute epidural hematoma, increasing hematoma volume can cause displacement of brain tissue and even brain herniation, potentially leading to a subsequent coma.
