What should be done if a person with hemophilia develops a swollen head from falling?
Disease description:
My friend has hemophilia and recently fell on his head while walking, resulting in swelling. What should be done if a person with hemophilia develops head swelling after a head injury?
Hemophilia-related head swelling from a bump can be relieved with local cold compresses. It is recommended to apply the cold compress for 10–15 minutes at a time, every 2 hours. If symptoms do not improve and are accompanied by pain or discomfort in other areas, patients should go to a local accredited hospital for treatment with clotting factor infusions. For pain relief, medications such as acetaminophen may be used as directed by a physician.
