What is disc bulge?
Disease description:
This morning, my colleague said he has a bulging disc, and they were all discussing it. I was wondering, what exactly is a bulging disc?
A herniated intervertebral disc refers to a deformation of the disc in which the inner nucleus pulposus is subjected to external pressure, leading to cracks and ruptures. This causes the collagen fibers within the disc to swell, ultimately resulting in disc herniation. A herniated disc may compress spinal nerve roots, causing pain that can occur in areas such as the back, lower back, thighs, and knees. In addition, patients may experience other symptoms including fatigue, knee joint stiffness, and abnormal sensations in the lower limbs.
