Should you keep warm when having a fever with chills?
Disease description:
Yesterday I accidentally caught a chill, which led to a cold. Today I have a slight fever and am shivering all over. A friend said I should keep warm. So, when you have a fever and are shivering, do you need to stay warm?
Fever usually refers to an elevated body temperature. Shivering during fever generally does not require extra warming. During fever, it's advisable to avoid wearing too many clothes, as this may hinder heat dissipation, worsen fever symptoms, and delay recovery. When experiencing fever, active physical cooling measures should be taken to help lower body temperature and control the condition. If body temperature exceeds 38.5°C, antipyretic medications may be taken as directed by a physician to relieve symptoms.
