Can colchicine lower uric acid levels?
Disease description:
Recently went to the hospital for a check-up and found high uric acid levels. Can colchicine lower uric acid?
Colchicine (commonly referring to colchicine tablets) does not directly lower uric acid levels. It is primarily an anti-inflammatory and analgesic medication, which can help alleviate symptoms such as joint swelling and pain caused by conditions like gouty arthritis. Its mechanism involves inhibiting the chemotaxis of white blood cells, thereby reducing inflammation within the joints. However, it does not possess the ability to lower serum uric acid levels. Therefore, when uric acid levels are elevated, colchicine tablets cannot effectively reduce uric acid. Medication should be used strictly according to a physician's instructions.
