In general, before removing wisdom teeth, the patient will first undergo a comprehensive oral examination to determine the position, shape, and size of the wisdom teeth, as well as the condition of surrounding teeth, nerves, and blood vessels. If the wisdom teeth are not causing any problems, they may be recommended for retention. However, if issues such as pain, inflammation, or tooth misalignment occur, extraction becomes necessary. The surgical procedure for wisdom tooth removal typically involves either local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is suitable for patients with uncomplicated cases, involving shorter surgery time and faster recovery. General anesthesia is used for more complex cases where the wisdom teeth are deeply impacted, resulting in longer surgical duration and extended recovery time. During the procedure, specialized instruments are used to cut through the gum tissue and bone surrounding the wisdom tooth, allowing it to be gradually removed. After surgery, the dentist will suture the wound, and the patient must follow post-operative instructions regarding rest and diet.
