What to do about dry, itchy skin after showering
After bathing, if you experience dry and itchy skin, try the following methods to help alleviate the problem.
1. Control the water temperature—avoid water that is too hot, as hot water can strip more natural oils and moisture from the skin. Also, limit your bath time; 15–20 minutes is generally sufficient.
2. Use mild, non-irritating bathing products, and avoid soaps or shower gels with strong alkaline formulas.
3. Immediately after bathing, while the skin is still slightly damp, apply a moisturizing lotion or body oil to lock in moisture. Choose skincare products containing natural oils such as olive oil, almond oil, or glycerin.
4. Use a humidifier indoors to increase air humidity, which helps reduce moisture loss from the skin.
5. Drink plenty of water daily to maintain internal hydration and support healthy skin metabolism.
6. If itching is severe, oral antihistamines may help relieve symptoms, but should only be taken under a doctor's guidance.
If symptoms worsen, seek medical attention promptly.
