Treatment of Guillain-Barré Syndrome
Disease description:
Treatment of Guillain-Barré Syndrome
The treatment of Guillain-Barré syndrome mainly includes:
1. Immunotherapy: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is the first-line treatment and is suitable for patients without a history of allergies. Plasma exchange is recommended for acute-phase patients without severe contraindications; the volume of plasma exchanged per session is calculated according to body weight, and multiple exchanges are performed. Corticosteroid therapy may be used in certain situations, such as financial constraints, with pulse steroid therapy being an option, although its efficacy requires further investigation.
2. Neurotrophic therapy: Administration of neurotrophic agents such as vitamin B, adenosylcobalamin, and nerve growth factors.
3. Symptomatic treatment: Bed rest, enhanced nursing care, and prevention of complications. In cases of respiratory failure, tracheotomy and mechanical ventilation may be considered.
4. Rehabilitation therapy: Including physical therapy, occupational therapy, physical agent therapy, and speech and swallowing function training, which help promote functional recovery.
