Disease description:
What are the symptoms of brain tumors?
Brain tumors present with a variety of symptoms, primarily including the following:
1. Headache: Headache is one of the most common symptoms of brain tumors. It is often severe in nature and typically occurs in the early morning, sometimes waking the patient from sleep. The headache usually gradually improves or resolves after mild physical activity upon getting up.
2. Vomiting: Due to increased intracranial pressure, vomiting frequently occurs, often following headaches and characterized by a projectile pattern.
3. Visual disturbances: Elevated intracranial pressure can impair venous blood return in the eye, potentially leading to vision deterioration.
4. Mental abnormalities: Brain tumors located in the frontal lobe of the cerebrum may disrupt mental functions, causing abnormal behaviors such as excitement, agitation, or depression.
5. Sensory disturbances: Reduced or absent sensation may occur in one side of the body.
6. Olfactory hallucinations: Tumors in the temporal lobe may cause phantosmia—perceiving smells that are not actually present.
