My urine is cloudy and white, which seems abnormal. What's more concerning is that I feel significant pain when urinating. I'm really worried—what should I do? I'd also like to ask the doctor: what causes hepatic ascites?

Dr. Yang Ziqi
Hepatic ascites is primarily caused by multiple factors, including portal hypertension and hypoalbuminemia due to liver diseases such as cirrhosis and hepatitis, as well as renal ascites triggered by kidney diseases like nephrotic syndrome. Additionally, infectious conditions such as intestinal tuberculosis and heart failure—especially right-sided heart failure—can also lead to ascites. For patients with hepatic ascites, initial management should include basic treatments such as bed rest and a balanced diet to promote ascites absorption. If symptoms cannot be relieved through conservative measures, diuretics may be considered. In cases of severe ascites, paracentesis may be performed to drain the accumulated fluid. For hepatic ascites caused by underlying liver disease, such as cirrhosis, further treatment may be required to stabilize liver function, and in some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary. Throughout the treatment process, patients should follow medical advice and actively cooperate to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.
