What causes pain at the tip of the tongue?
Disease description:
It might be due to eating too much spicy food. Since yesterday, I've had a persistent tingling pain on the tip of my tongue, making eating very inconvenient. I'd like to know what could cause pain at the tip of the tongue?
Possible causes of tongue tip pain may include various conditions. Oral ulcers are a common cause, possibly related to burns, injury from hard objects, vitamin deficiency, or psychological factors, leading to damage of the oral mucosa and resulting in pain. Inflammation of the lingual papillae is another important cause of tongue tip pain, often due to food irritation, sharp tooth edges, or ill-fitting dental restorations that injure the tongue's mucous membrane. Additionally, burning mouth syndrome, "excessive internal heat" (a traditional concept), and trigeminal neuralgia may also lead to pain at the tip of the tongue. For treatment of tongue tip pain, it is recommended to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid spicy or excessively hot foods. For oral ulcers or lingual papillitis, topical treatments such as oral ulcer powder or compound chlorhexidine mouthwash may be used. If pain persists or worsens, prompt medical evaluation is advised.
