How to correct strabismus
The correction of strabismus mainly includes two approaches: surgical and non-surgical treatments.
1. Surgical treatment: For children with severe strabismus who do not respond to non-surgical treatments, surgery may be recommended. This procedure corrects the alignment of the eyes by adjusting the attachment position of the extraocular muscles on the eyeball and modifying their contractile strength, thereby restoring normal positional relationships between the eyes and achieving parallel visual axes.
2. Non-surgical treatment: Mild cases of strabismus can be corrected through non-surgical methods, including wearing glasses, orthoptic vision training, and patching therapy. Wearing corrective glasses is a common approach, especially effective for children with fully accommodative esotropia, whose eye alignment can normalize after using appropriate glasses. Orthoptic training and patching also help improve strabismus.
