Pelvic effusion is an imaging description of fluid accumulation in the pelvic cavity, rather than an independent disease. It can be classified into two types: physiological and pathological. 1. Physiological pelvic effusion: Some healthy women may have a small amount of fluid accumulation during menstruation or ovulation. This occurs because the pelvis is the lowest part of the abdominal cavity, where minimal exudate, transudate, or bleeding from pelvic or abdominal organs tends to collect first. 2. Pathological pelvic effusion: This type is commonly caused by various factors, such as infectious diseases (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis), rupture of ovarian cysts, fallopian tube abnormalities, endometriosis, trauma, or postoperative complications. Pathological effusion may be accompanied by symptoms including a sensation of heaviness, lower abdominal and lumbosacral pain, menstrual irregularities, and infertility. If related symptoms occur, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
