How long does lochia last after a cesarean section?
Disease description:
Ten days after a second cesarean section, there is still significant vaginal discharge of lochia. I would like to know how long it usually takes for lochia to completely clear up after a cesarean section?
The time it takes for lochia to completely discharge after a cesarean section depends on the individual condition of each mother, and the duration varies among women. Under normal circumstances, most women will finish discharging lochia within about 2 to 4 weeks, although in rare cases it may last 1 to 2 months. Lochia is associated with the shedding of the uterine decidua and consists of blood, necrotic decidual tissue, and other materials expelled through the vagina. Postpartum lochia is a physiological phenomenon; it is normally odorless but has a distinct bloody smell.
