Disease description:

It has been almost a month since my cesarean section, but I still have lochia discharge that hasn't completely cleared. I'm concerned that the lochia is lasting too long. How long does it usually take for lochia to stop after a cesarean delivery?

The duration of lochia discharge after cesarean section varies among individuals, but it typically clears up within 4 to 6 weeks. The process of lochia discharge occurs in three stages: First is the bloody lochia, lasting 3 to 7 days, which is bright red and may contain blood clots. This is followed by serous lochia, lasting about one week, during which the color gradually turns pinkish-red and contains less blood along with more necrotic tissue, cervical mucus, etc. Finally, there is white lochia, which may last 2 to 3 weeks, appearing white or pale yellow and consisting largely of white blood cells, epithelial cells, and decidual tissue. Some women may experience a prolonged discharge due to individual differences in constitution or postpartum recovery, but it generally does not exceed 8 weeks. If lochia persists beyond the normal period or shows abnormalities, prompt medical attention is recommended.
