Disease description:

My younger sister has chronic hepatitis B (positive for HBsAg, HBeAg, and HBV DNA), and she discovered last month that she is pregnant. Will having "three positives" for hepatitis B affect the fetus?

Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
Hepatitis B "big three positive" during pregnancy may have certain effects on the fetus. "Big three positive" indicates active replication of the hepatitis B virus in the patient's body and a high level of infectivity. If a pregnant woman does not receive timely antiviral treatment and mother-to-child transmission prevention measures during pregnancy, the fetus may be at risk of intrauterine infection. During delivery, the baby may also become infected through broken skin or mucous membranes coming into contact with the mother's blood, amniotic fluid, or vaginal secretions. To reduce the risk of neonatal hepatitis B virus infection, pregnant women who are "big three positive" should undergo antiviral therapy under medical guidance and ensure that the newborn receives hepatitis B immunoglobulin immediately after birth, followed by timely administration of the hepatitis B vaccine according to schedule. Regular prenatal check-ups and adherence to medical advice are essential for ensuring the health of both mother and baby.
